Report from Leader Paul

We met at Guildford railway station just after 10am and after quick introductions we walked out of Guildford along the River Wey. We went up the Pilgrims Way into Chantry woods where we saw the English variety of bluebells in full bloom. After that we walked to the top of St Martha's Hill to the church there and on to Newlands Corner where we walked among the ancient Yew trees which are contorted into all sorts of interesting shapes. From there we went to Newlands Corner Kiosk for lunch.
After lunch we headed out through wide open fields down to the industrial ruins of Chilworth Gunpowder Mill and through the valley with a stream and the derelict buildings. As we got closer to Guildford we passed through the dazzling yellow Rape-seed fields which were at their best. We ended up at the Kings Head pub for a drink and chat before going home. It was quite a long walk but the forecasted rain in the afternoon held-off till we arrived at the pub at the end of the walk.    Leader Paul & Mariko.
