Cobham Hall
On Sunday 20th March 2016, eleven of us met at Victoria station for the annual “Daffodil Walk” – a circular ten mile walk from Sole Street in Kent, taking in Cobham Hall and its beautiful daffodils. En route we called in at a small, ancient college (now almshouses) at Cobham village and one of the residents told about the dinning room with its grand fireplace, which we saw for the first time. The sun blessed us with its presence in the morning, as we climbed up through the woods in Shorne country park. In the afternoon we braved a crossing of a golf course where fortunately most of the golfers must have been in the bar (the 19th hole). Finding a shortcut into Cobham Hall we took it, only to find we had to clamber through a fence by a locked gate. Safely inside we made straight for Cobham Hall and tea with cake or scone in the grandest of tea rooms, which because of a road closure, we had all to ourselves. The daffodils in the grounds were looking healthy – some out and some to come – and a few of us took a small bunch home. The day had been so good we were behind schedule, and for the last two kilometres had to walk at twice the pace in order to catch the once an hour train. We made it with 4 mins to spare and collapsed into the warm carriage homewards to Victoria station. Leader David & Maureen
