Millmead Lock(River Wey) |
Nine of us met up at Guildford railway station at 10.00. We walked out of Guildford along the River Wey and Shalford Park and turned up Pilgrims Way and into Chantry Woods. We walked out into a field to High Ball viewing spot before heading back into the woods to see the spectacular display of English bluebells. From there we walked further on to Saint Martha’s Hill Church. Before lunch we walked on to the woods behind Newlands Corner and saw the ancient Yew trees. Over a picnic lunch at Newlands Corner the cloudy sky broke up slowly into a sunny afternoon for our walk through wide open fields to Pewley Down beauty spot just outside Guildford. Then downhill to Guildford Castle and finally the Kings Head pub at 4.00pm. We were lucky with the weather and got to see plenty of beautiful views and lots of spring flowers.
