about 11 mile approx 17.6 km walk.
Autumn is here and this walk will hopefully find some beautiful autumn leaves 🍁 We will look for some in Richmond Park, Wimbledon Common and Cannizaro park. We will also walk along the Thames at Richmond, and might see some deer in Richmond Park, a windmill in Wimbledon Common and the house of a rich Italian at Cannizaro park.
We start in front of Richmond station at 10:30 on the 4th of November (only 1 exit). District line tube or SW trains from Waterloo (fastest). Toilets near platform 7 (District line). A short walk through Richmond takes us to the river. We will walk along the river to Petersham Nurseries, and then to Richmond Park. We will stop at King Henry’s mound where we can see both St Paul’s and Windsor castle. We will have an early lunch at Pembroke Lodge (self service only with sandwiches, snacks and roast lunches - toilets inside and in the park outside). It should take about an hour and a half to get there, which is good because it gets busy at lunch time!
In the afternoon we will walk through Richmond Park to Isabella Plantation (toilets) which should have some wonderful autumn leaves 🍀 We leave Richmond Park and cross the A3 into Wimbledon Common, past ducks and maybe swans in Queensmere Pond to the 200 year old windmill (now a museum).
Those who would like to stay longer at the museum can take a 93 bus to Wimbledon station (District line tube, SW trains to Waterloo, trams to Croydon - toilets by the District line). Those who would like to see Cannizaro House and park could walk for another 1 hour or so to Wimbledon Station. There are many pubs in Wimbledon!
The walk should end around 4pm. It is about 18km (11 miles) altogether and has one 100m long steep bit (but with a good path). This is a very rough video guide to the route.
